Welsh Fashion AmbassadorWith all these big ambitions and a prime location in one of Cardiff's most stylish arcades, Woodies was set to take Wales by storm on one condition, that the team could hunt out the product that would become the basis of their business. Distance, time, expense and bribery were no barriers to finding the choicest items of clothing so trips to Paris, Milan, Parma and of course London on a weekly basis began to distinguish Woodies from its competitors. Bringing back the best in French and Italian fashion the young, fashionable things of Wales finally had a shop that was talking their language. Returning from these fashion crusades with vans piled high with now classic brands like Replay, Central Park, Pooh, Clark Jeans and many more Woodies took on a slogan that seemed to say it all, "Very Continental Clothing". By the mid Eighties Woodies had firmly established itself as a major player in the product led world of designer fashion and was rapidly being approached by more and more established and up - and - coming labels to represent them in Wales. Woodies had become the Welsh fashion ambassador for many major labels but as usual Bacon's wondering eye was continually straying further abroad for inspiration. Fortunately he didn't have to stray far to find what would be one of Woodies best loved and initially most misunderstood labels, it was a simple jacket in a Kings Road store with a strange label buttoned onto the arm, nothing more.
